It depends on your needs. A laptop is far more convenient. Disk space of 200 gig or better, CD/DVD, wireless, 4 USB ports, at least 4 gig of ram, a large screen.
Honestly.. I would advise 2 gigs. Though my laptop isn't the best in the world and has 1 gig and runs fine on it. So at the bare minimum with minimum graphics you can go 1 gig RAM and still run about 21-25 FPS. (no graphic lag)
