A Ghillie Suit is a full, natural camouflage suit typically worn by Scout/Sniper teams in enemy territory. They utilize natural materials from the area of operation, and can take weeks to make by hand. They were first used by Scottish Gamekeepers as a "portable blind" for observing game undetected. Eventually they were used by Scottish Lovat scouts in the Boer War, and that unit became the first sniper unit to wear them.
A person wearing a well made Ghillie Suit is virtually undetectable by observers, even at close range. They have been used successfully in many wars since the Lovat scouts first used them in combat.
