A niche is an animals role in its ecosystem. The Giraffes live in the same area as other herbivores but with its long neck it does not compete with their food source. Giraffes eat leaves of the Acacia Tree, and certain species of this tree will only germinate after passing through a Giraffe's digestive system.

The giraffe has an important niche in its ecosystem. Its long neck means that it can reach high up plants that other animals cannot, so other animals don't have to compete with giraffes for food. Giraffes also serve as prey, although this mostly applies to babies, as adults are hard for even large animals to take down.
