Later, Morten Thrane Brünnich, in 1775, renamed the genus to Giraffa. In 1827, a giraffe was taken to France, alighting at Marseille and walking the 900 km to Paris. People lined the streets to see her, as she was accompanied by the naturalist Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to meet Charles X. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giraffe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giraffe_given_to_Charles_X_of_France_by_Muhammad_Ali_of_Egypt
