May a moose ne'er leave yir girnal means = May a mouse never leave your storage chest. It's a line from a well known Scottish toast. All the best, Phyllis This is a line from a time-honored toast, attributed to Robbie Burns, and it goes like this: May the best you've ever seen be the worst you'll ever see. May a mouse ne'er leave your girnal wi' a teardrap in his e'e. May your lum keep blithely reekin' till ye're auld eneuch tae dee. May ye aye be jist as happy as I wish you now tae be. The first line is pretty straightforward. The mouse in the second line is pronounced more like moose, and the girnal is pronounced with a hard G, as in the word girdle. The wish here is that the mouse never leaves your grain storage chest with a teardrop in his eye, having found it empty. Third line: may your chimney keep cheerfully smoking till you're old enough to die. Fourth line: May you indeed be as happy as I wish you now to be. In this last line, now is pronounced more like noo. In another version, the third line changes to: May ye aye keep hale an' he'rty till ye're auld eneuch tae dee.
