Joyce Carol Oates said it best: "The first sentence can't be written until the final sentence is written."
Worry about finishing your story, not about writing the perfect opening sentence! You can change anything you like once you've finished -- go back and think of a great first sentence then, instead of waiting for some magical "first sentence" to fall out of the sky and hit you in the head.
Now get off the internet and get back to writing that story!
As the full moon rose in the sky, the air crackled with an eerie energy. The townspeople whispered of strange howls echoing through the night, and shadows moved in the darkness with an unnatural swiftness. Little did they know, a young man was about to discover a terrifying secret that would change his life forever.

The legend of the werewolf goes back to King lycoan of Arcadian -- so well back into the Bronze age.

A Really good werewolf series I came across lately was A Werewolf's Saga by Michael Lampman. The first in the series Changes a werewolf's saga is followed by The Pack and Redemption and I guess will continue on with others. Its a good read and changes a lot of what a werewolf is.The Twilight books have werewolves in them. A good werewolf book is Sharpteeth, if you're over 16 or so. Then the Sight and Fell are about normal wolves..Well if you want a good werewolf series there is always Kelley Armstrong's "Women of the other world"There's Also Tales of an Urban werewolf-- by Karen MacInerney! Both series have sexual content but are very good!
Since a werewolf is a legendary or fictional creature, its heart can weigh as much or as little as the current story requires.
Yes, it is based on a true story it says it in the beginning of the movie.
