Well, it depends on what your research shows, but you don't have to end with a sentence that begins "In conclusion..." ... You're right, that is kind of cheesy, and boring. One thing that some people do is save a really good quote or fact for the end of the paper... kind of a final punch. If you don't want to do that, instead of just summing up what you just said in the paper, try going further... predict. Is the problem of oxycodone addiction going to get better or worse? Are the addicts going to get younger or older? ... You could add personal thoughts on the subject, if you have any personal knowledge. You could talk about how prevalent this addiction is in your area, and how big of a problem it is... whether you think that anything can be done about it, or whether anything should be done. You could also end with a question: Do you know where your unused prescriptions are? ... or, How many people have to become addicted before we take simple precautions... or whatever the point is of your paper... but directed to the audience, asking them to think, or take action. Those are just a few ideas... but you're right. Conclusions don't have to be the same dry, boring stuff that you usally see. As long as whoever you are writing it for is open to it, be creative... get out of the traditional formulaic assignment, and drive your point home.
