an exercise that i used to is: if you are doing quarter notes on the high hat or a basic rock beat. you can play the bass drum on beat one, but instead of following the quarter notes you go 1& 2 3 4 if that makes any sense high hat- 1 2 3 4 snare- . . 3 . bass - 1& . . . (the dots are like rests)

How do you make beats with fl studio 9?
After changing the BPM (beats per minute) rate (default set as 140BPM) and opening the playlist, you can select which pattern to edit from the left sidebar of the playlist window. Suppose you are selecting pattern 1, the "Sampler" window will appear as a smaller window with several tracks labeled "Kick" "Clap" "HiHat" ect. and a series of unlabeled buttons will be listed following the tracks. Click a few of those buttons and note that they will be depressed and light up with color. Now, outside of that window, press the play button on the top menu bar. If no sound is heard, press the button just to the left of the play button that says : Pat: o Song: o click it until the light to the right of "Pat" is lit up. Press play again. If it still leads to no audio, double check your sound set up and keep trying. the sequencing of the buttons pressed and the spaces left between the lit buttons in the sampler/drum machine window will determine what rhythm you are telling the computer to play the audio clips in. highlighting squares in this same beat intuitive manner in the playlist window along the same line as the pattern you have edited, you can order different combinations of beat variations, specifying when for those particular parts to come in.

His nirvana kit was a Tama Artstar II, 24" kickdrum, 15 and 18inch toms and a 14×8inch artwood snaredrum. He used an Aquarian hi energy snare batter head, remo pinstripes on the toms, and a remo powerstroke on the kickdrum. The cymbals he used where zildjian A series, usually 15inch rock hihats, 18 and 20inch crashes and a 24inch medium ride. But sometimes he also used a 22inch heavy ride. His more recent tour kit, used with Queens of the Stone Age, are DW Drums, with a pelham blue color, much like his signature Gibson model color. He uses 24inch kickdrum, 15, 16 and 18inch toms, with a 14×6,5inch snaredrum. The cymbals he uses are 15inch Zildjian A series mastersound hihats, Zildjian A series medium ride (either 22 or 24inch) and a set of Paiste 2002 powercrashes (19 and 20inch). Sometimes he optes for a Paiste 2002 ride alongside of some Zildjian A series crashes.
How do you write music for a drum set?
To make it easier I have highlited the drums and did the best explaining I could. Most of this is for right handed drummers but for the left handed drummers do this but visa versa To set up a drum set, you have to first put the Bass Drum down in a comfortable spot for it will be the base of the drum set and the middle of your drum set ( It's the biggest drum). Then, you should put on both Tom Tom(s) (The smallest one unless you have two) they go in the to poles sticking out of the Bass Drum. The Tom Tom(s) should just slide right on because they have two large holes horizontally in each side. Next I would put down the Snare Drum (the one with beads strapped to the bottom of it). It goes on a stand with three legs and three arms. Now if you are right handed you put it down on the left side of the Bass Drum right next to it (horizontally) but sticking out about five inches forward. If you are left handed, visa versa. Then there's the Floor Tom. The Floor Tomgoes on you right just like the Snare Drum except the Floor Tom goes on the opposite side from the Snare Drum (its the second biggest drum) (Visa Versa for left handed). Now the symbols fall into place. To put in the HiHat you put it right next to the Snare Drum on the left side but still giving you enough room to hit the Snare Drum (Visa Versa if your left handed). Your Ride Symbolgoes on your right side (Visa Versa if your left handed) and it goes in the middle of Tom Tom Two and the Floor Tom. Then there's the Crash Symbol. The Crash Symbol goes on the left side right behind Tom Tom One and the Snare Drum (Visa Versa if your left handed. And finally the Medium Crash Symbol. It goes right behind Tom Tom One and Tom Tom Two (This cannot be Visa Versa'd)
