The homophones for petal are pedal and peddle. petal: noun: part of a flower. The petal of the flower was pink. pedal: noun: foot operated lever to make bicycles move; part pressed by the foot used on a bicycle or piano. The pedal on my bike broke off. peddle: verb: to sell or promote. Please don't peddle those items in front of my store!

Peddle and pedal come close but most English speakers make the distinction between the d and t so they don't quite work. Pedal, but this only occurs in American English and not British English, where petal and pedal are pronounced differently.

Pettle is a Scottish word meaning fondle or caress.
