Here is a possible comparison of a hypothesis and a theory in science: A hypothesis is basically an educated guess, where nothing has been tested yet, whereas a theory is a hypothesis that has been tested over and over, numerous times, with the same results.

Im not an expert but a hypothesis I think is done by using the senses of the body and mind, and thinking really hard and working over and over again to find a hypothesis. And you keep making a hypothesis until it is your final answer.

After they have a new (but one that still relates to their old hypothesis) hypothesis, they re-do their experiment. Ex) "I believe girls have better quiz scores than boys because they have better short term memory" If your hypothesis is incorrect (ie: the boys do better) then you need to change the hypothesis and test it again--> "I believe girls have better quiz scores because they have better long term memory".
