You downloaded something it wrecked your computer you cant tell anyone because you would be in huge trouble how do you get rid of everything on your computer?

To completely erase your hard disk you'll need a utility like "Killdisk", "Evidence Eliminator" or some other hard disk eraser. Visit your favorite search engine and type in "hard disk erase" and you'll find plenty of options. Ian www.winstructor.com

Format harddisk without using os CD?

Do One Thing. Try Any Freeware Software like Dban Or Killdisk. You Have To Create A Bootable CD Out Of It And Run The CD On Your PC. If The Computer Does Not Display "Boot From CD Or DVD" At Boot, Then Go In The Advanced BIOS Features In Your BIOS And Change The Boot Priority Setting As :- 1. Floppy / CD Or DVD 2. CD Or DVD / Floppy 3. Hard Disk Hope This Helps.

How do you format a Gateway computer when the CD from the company is lost?

I've recently reinstalled Vista in a Gateway and was quite surprised by how easy it is to get all of the drivers needed from their website...To resume; if you do own an OS CD just start your laptop from it and once the installation is done go to the Gateways website and download the drivers for your laptop...http:/support.gateway.com/support/default.aspxIf you would like a different OS I'll need to agree with the following answer, Ubuntu would be my choice, however you have many other Open Source Operating Systems you can easily download, the following address will take to a page where many are named and provides links to respective Home Pages.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Linux_distributionsYou might want to contact Gateway and see if you can buy a new Cd for your machine. Or go and check some used OS's from a reliable software vendor.---------------------------------------------------------agree with person below me but install ubuntuInstall Linux. I prefer Fedora.if your gateway is out of warranty, the only way you will get new disk from gateway is to buy one from them. make sure when you buy new one that u use it as soon as you get it my disks from gateway were missing drivers, i got messed about by gateway until warranty was out now they will not support computer unless i buy another disk needless to say i will not purchase gateway or emachines again both same companyANSWERUse a free program such as Active@ KillDisk or NUKE. Both these programs are found for free on the webYou could also try to find someone locally that would be willing to loan you their copy of windows. Microsoft does have you register that particular version, but if you tell them your hard drive crashed they will give you the confirmation code. I've got 3 computers right now all running off of one OS with absolutely no trouble from Microsoft. What operating system do you need?If you let me know, I can get one for you.my email is ksmoore@tmo.blackberry.netAlso, how new is this Gateway computer? If it is brand new and factory, it has a recovery partition labeled D.

How can you format a computer to make it like it was when brand new?

A format will erase EVERYTHING, so if you have an external hard drive, backup everything in there. It will also erase your operating system as well. If you reformat, your computer won't have an OS to boot from. If your computer is manufactured one like DELL/Compaq/HP/Gateway, your computer may have come with a system restore disk that will do the reformat for you and install everything exactly as it was when you brought it home. If it doesn't come with this disc, many times you can buy it from the manufacturer. If your computer is an Acer, there is an option using Acer eRecovery Service to restore it to the Factory Defaults. Your Acer may also have come with a recovery disk, which you can restore using using the eRecovery Service. 1. Insert your manufacturer restore disk or Operating System disk 2. When you initially turn on the computer enter the boot menu, change the boot sequence to have the CD-ROM boot first rather than the Hard Drive and follow the instructions. You can use programs such as Active@ KillDisk found at killdisk.com These programs are available in case you don't have an Operating System disk available to you or you are throwing your hard drive away and don't want your data out there possibly in the wrong hands. Boot n Nuke is another piece of free software that can format and erase your hard drive over and over again. 1.Go to dban.org 2.Click "Download" 3.Click "for CD and DVD media" 4.Burn the downloaded file to CD/DVD with an ISO burning software like infrarecorder which is free to download at infrarecorder.org. 5.Insert the disc and reboot the machine. 6.If your PC is set to boot from the CD/DVD drive first, it should boot dban. If not press F8 or F12 then select DVD drive. 7.Your PC should load the disc and then follow the instructions on the screen. Formatting may take some time but it is well worth it because it erases data a few times to a standard where no data is recoverable.
