What is a knot protecter bead in fishing?
September 13, 2009 8:18AM
Thi bead protects the knot from the sliding sinker. it is placed between the knot and the sinker
I would not suggest using a bead to protect your knot. The beads edges around the hole on both sides can become sharp and cut/fray your line at the knot causing it to become weak.
I would recommend using silicone airline tubing (you can get this at your local fish store, i use the mini) or the "Owner" soft beads, either of the 2 will protect your knot with no worries.
Hope this helps

How do you put a fishing lure on your reel?
You don't. You put it on your fishing line. You can use various swivels to attach it to the line or you can tie it directly using a knot such as the "Palomar Knot". For excellent animated examples of how to tie many knots including many fishing knots go to: www.animatedknots.com click on fishing and click on whichever knot example is desired.

How do you tie a fishing knot?
The one I tie most often is the Improved Clinch Knot. Easy to tie, and if tied right, the more the fish pulls the tighter the knot gets. Some people prefer the Palomar knot. It is one of the best knots you can use for mono 100% knot strength. I have used this knot for years and never had it slip or break at the knot......Highly recommended. The Palomar knot is a great knot for sure, but not for crankbaits. It can make the bait saw off to one side or the other.

What is the name of the knot that Richard walker invented?
The popular fly fishing Grinner or Double Grinner knot. It is very similar in construction to the Blood Knot but it is doubly strong, being double whipped over the standing portion of the knot. He's also credited with 'inventing' the modern-day carp rod with the 'Richard Walker Mk IV (his original hand-made examples are now valued in thousands of pounds!) and he was instrumental in the developement of the carbon-fibre fishing rod.

How do you put new line on a spincasting closed reel?
You remove the cover, which generally just unscrews like a jar lid. Then tread the line through the hole in the middle of the cover. Then use a knot to tie it to the spool shaft. An Arbor Knot is a good knot to use. Go to www.animatedknots.com click on fishing then click on "Arbor Knot" for an animated demo of how to tie it.

How To Tie On Fish Hooks?
A basic part of fishing is understanding how to tie on fish hooks. Properly tying on fish hooks requires a knowledge of basic fishing knots. With the right fishing knots, you can connect your line to your hook, lure and other tackle and enhance your chances to catch some fish. Tying Fishing Knots A basic knot used for tying fish hooks is a clinch knot. It is simple to do and easy to learn and it maintains 95 percent of the fishing lines original breaking strength. A clinch knot can be used on lines that are up to 20 pound test in strength. To tie a clinch knot, you start out by passing the line through the eye of the fish hook. Then double back and make five loops. Take the end of the line and pass it back through the little loop in the eye and then through the big loop. Wet the line and draw the loops tight. Once the line is tight, cut the tag end with a nail clipper so it is 1/8 inch long. Other basic fishing knots include the uni knot, the surgeon's knot and the palomar knot. The surgeon's knot is ideal for joining two lines together. If joining two lines, the ends should overlap by about 10 centimeters. A surgeon's knot is done by tying a half hitch three times without tightening. After the hitches are in place, you must slowly and carefully pull the lines apart so the knot snugs down firmly. Wetting your knots with some water or saliva will prevent them from slipping and coming undone as you tighten the knots. Good Knots vs Bad Knots A good fishing knot will keep your line intact when a larger fish grabs the hook. The most effective knots will not reduce the line beyond 80 percent of its original strength. A properly tied knot can be done in less than a minute and it can be done in minimal light or with wet and slippery hands. When you cast out your line, it will break off at some point or another from snagging on an underwater object or losing a battle with a struggling fish. A working knowledge of fishing knots can help reduce such episodes.
