If you can get parking at the Braintree or Quincy T stations, do so. And if time permits, visit Quincy first, because it contains some amazing history, including the John Adams & Abigail Adams homes. Two presidents (John Adams and John Quincy Adams) were born in Quincy and there is a very interesting tour of the places they lived-- the Adams Mansion is absolutely worth seeing. Then, you can easily get on the Red Line into Boston to see the rest of the historical sites that Boston has to offer. If you get off the T at Park Street, you are right at one of the stops on the Freedom Trail, near the Boston Common and Beacon Hill, and convenient to many of Boston's most famous historical venues.
