A language that is used as an everyday means of communication among people generally, and which changes over time as people change their habits (compare Shakespeare's Enlgish with the English that you speak). Examples are English, French,Spanish, German. Examples of 'dead' languages are Latin and Ancient Greek.

A living language is a language that is currently spoken and used by people as a means of communication. It is continuously evolving through usage, changes, and adaptations to meet the needs of its speakers. This contrasts with a dead language, which is no longer spoken as a mother tongue by any community.
