Best Answer

There are no magnetic storms ON the Earth.

What can happen is that if a major solar flare or coronal mass ejection strikes the Earth's magnetic field, it can cause an electromagnetic storm in the upper atmosphere. We see these as auroras; sort of God's own neon lights in the sky.

A disturbance or fluctuation in the Earth's outer magnetosphere, usually caused by streams of charged particles (plasma) given off by solar flares. The entry of large amounts of plasma into the upper atmosphere results in intense auroral displays and other magnetic phenomena in the polar regions of the Earth. *Also known as a geomagnetic storm.
