A "medium" in the Old Testament is the same as a medium anywhere else: they are a human "bottle," a "jar," a "vessel" through whom "unclean spirits" function and communicate with other people.
"Do not rely on MEDIUMS and psychics, for you will be defiled by them. I, the Lord, am your God." (Lev.19:31 NLT New Living Translation)
Mediums are people whose deceived minds and hearts are "unguarded" from the evil and wickedness of the "unclean spirit realm." In their ignorance of God's Truth; His Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding... they give up their own personal sovereignty and will and are open to satanic forces, to which this present world is subject.
"...the way of the wicked is like complete darkness. Those who follow it have no idea what they are stumbling over. Pay attention, my Child, to what I say. Listen carefully. Don't lose sight of My Words. Let them penetrate deep within your heart, for they bring Life and Radiant Health to anyone who discovers their meaning. Above all else, GUARD YOUR HEART, for it affects everything you do." (Prov.4:19-23 NLT)
The Bible tells us that the "angels who sinned" in the beginning are presently restrained and imprisoned on planet earth -- AWAITING JUDGMENT DAY.
"...God has kept them chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the Day of Judgment." (Jude 1:6 NLT)
These "unclean spirits," invisible to the human eye, rule and control and guide the deceived hearts and minds of men. Adam and Eve sold themselves [and mankind] into bondage and slavery to their influence in the beginning when they OBEYED "that Old Serpent" ["...called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world..." - Rev.12:9 KJV].
Mediums actively indulge in the spirit realm... deceiving both themselves and others with the "powers" that they think THEY HAVE -- when, in reality, that "dark power HAS THEM!"
This sin-sick world... mediums and all of mankind, suffers under the influence of these "fallen angels."
"And furthermore, the FUTURE WORLD we are talking about[when Jesus Christ brings God's Government to the earth] WILL NOT BE CONTROLLED BY ANGELS." (Heb.2:5 NLT)
But for now... this world is under their influence. And "mediums" are one type of "vessel" through whom this wicked and demonic power is channeled.
