It is a sort of cat-like mammal that lived a long time ago, and it was the very first carnivor. Sort of weasel-like. It's fur was mostly dark---wolfish colors. It hunted bugs and looked for plants---Until, that is, some of the Miacisi grew carnassials(cheek teeth) And that led to hunting small rodents and birds, etc.

What are male meerkats called?

Isn't a male meerkat called a dog since the meerkat shares a common ancestor with the domestic dogs and the wild cats? Dogs, cats, bears, hyenas and mongooses, including the meerkat share a common ancestor: the extinct miacis.

What are dogs descended from?

Early relatives of dogs were tiny and lived in trees; they would not be recognized as dogs today. Prehistoric dogs began to resemble the dogs of today about 40 million years ago, with animals such as the dire wolf and Leptocyon.

How were cats made?

In history, it is generally believed, can be traced back to the Miacis, a weasel like creature that inhabited the earth some 40 or so million years ago. Not just cat history, but the history of all land dwelling carnivores can be traced back to the Miacis, and that includes dogs! The best known of the cats of pre-history, is the saber toothed cat (Smilodon). These large, fearsome, members of the cat family roamed, and hunted, much of the ancient world before finally hunting their prey, and therefore themselves, to extinction.By the close of the Stone Age cats had learned that where humans were found, there was the easy prey of rodents, this was still too early in cat history for them to be considered domestic pets. A cat's jawbone that has been dated to 6000 BC was uncovered on the island of Cyprus, and as cats are not indigenous to the island, it points to cats arriving on the island along with the first human colonists. It was the descendants of the African wildcat that took the history of the cat into domestication.

Where were cats originally from?

Im not sure i don't know if im right but i heard its egypt.I believe they used it for killing mice. And im not sure but if im right please tell me. Historians tended to think that ancient Egypt was the site of cat domestication because of the cats in the paintings about 3,600 years old. But in 2004, a Neolithic grave was excavated in Shillourokambos, Cyprus, that contained the skeletons, laid close to one another, of both a human and a cat. The grave is estimated to be 9,500 years old. The cat specimen is large and closely resembles the African wildcat, rather than house cats. The discovery, combined with genetic studies, suggest that cats were probably domesticated in the Near East, in the Fertile Crescent, around the time of the development of agriculture. Then they were brought to Cyprus and Egypt. Hope this helps.
