What is a mormon confirmation?

Following baptism, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church is confirmed. The confirmation may take place immediately after a baptism service with only invited family and friends participating (usually this is the case for children) or during a Sunday worship service with the entire congregation present (usually this is the case for converts).
The confirmation is performed with the recipient sitting on a chair with ordained elders standing in a circle around them placing their hands on the recipient's head. Most often the elders are ordained family members, close friends, or the missionaries who taught the individual.

Mormons believe that the confirmation will bestow upon the individual the Gift of the Holy Ghost as well as officially seal their membership in the church. The confirmation is also a time for the newly baptized to be blessed with things that they might need in their new walk with Christ, such as faith, guidance, courage, desire to study God's word, etc.
