Is cholesterol polar?

well im not 100% sure, but i know that water is polar, and only other polar things can dissolve into it. fats, i.e. cholesterol, are not soluble in water, and therefore must be nonpolar. ALSO, cholesterol is made up of four hydrocarbon rings. hydrocarbon rings, obviously, are made of hydrogen and carbon. (side note - polar compounds are formed when the difference of electromagnetivity - how much the element attracts electrons - between the elements causes an imbalance in the direction of attraction). the difference in electromagnetivity between those two elements is too little to be considered a polar molecule.

Why oils and fats miscible in organic solvent?

Miscible means, a liquid is able to dissolve in a liquid. Generally, "like dissolives like". Oil is a non polar molecule since there is little difference in the electronegativity of an oil molecule. Therefore, the organic solvent must also be non polar. The only way that an oils or fats can dissolve in organic solvents is if the organic solvent is non polar and the oil or fat is non polar.

What are 4 major macromolecules found in living organism?

The four macromolecules found in living organisms are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids:1. Carbohydrates: Are Molecule composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and they include sugars and starches.2. Lipids: Are non polar molecule that includes fats, oils, and cholesterol.3. Proteins: A Proteins is a polymer made of monomers called amino acids.4. Nucleic Acids: Are polymer that are made up of monomers called nucleotides.
