A balanced meal that consists of dietary fibre, water and nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals in one dish.
For example, a pasta (carbohydrates) with vegetables (dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals) and some chicken or meat (proteins and fats) gets everything together without requiring you to prepare three separate dishes.
A one dish meal is a combination of protein and vegetables prepared and served in one dish. Many times these dishes take the form of a casserole. If you combine meat or beans with vegetables and possibly pasta, rice, or other grains you have a one dish meal.
I used to have this friend in Alaska. Kooky guy, nuts really but check this out; 1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 large can canned chicken (get the good stuff is you can, low sodium)
saltine crackers
cheddar cheese
1 bunch Broccoli broken down to floweretts
Salt Pepper to taste
In a large deep casserole dish layer thus;
saltines crushed cover the bottom
1/2 can either soup
layer of chicken broken up
Layer cheddar cheese grated
1/2 can other soup
Layer Broccoli
Layer cheese
Repeat layering till everything is used
Save enough saltines and cheddar cheese to mix together for topping.
Pop this mess into the preheated oven at about 375 to 400 degrees for 25 minutes. The trick is to heat everything through and through, making sure the cheese melts thoroughly without over cooking the broccoli. The Broc' should be bright green and still have a shape to it instead of OD green and dead looking.
Name it what you want I don't have a name for it.

Quite apart from fast-food restaurants- though it does suggest economy and also a pre-packaged production run- meals in one piece, like newly made autos- the idea was widely propagated in Nazi Germany and was known as Ein topf and the word for meals. The subject is discussed in some detail in the book- the Twelve Year Reich.
it think it is a meal with only 1 course in it normally a main meal so it is quite filling
