Sometimes an author does not want to use his or her real name in the published form of whatever it is that he or she has written. A pen name or pseudonym is a fake name that is used to conceal the real identity of the author, while still allowing the reader to associate the written material (books or whatever) with a specific person. Even some very famous and well loved authors have done this; for example, the real name of Mark Twain was Samuel Clemens. And on this web-site, and many other web-sites, it is quite common for people to use pseudonyms. My own name, for example, is not really blobbert.

A pen name or pseudonym is a fictitious name used by an author instead of their real name when writing and publishing books, articles, or other works. Authors often choose to use a pen name for various reasons, such as privacy, genre differentiation, or marketing purposes.
