Honestly I have no clue what-so-ever it's pretty pointles. Like the name suggests when burying them they create pifalls ( noun: a hidden hole or dug out trap ). They get really anoying when looking for fossils but they can be collected, then stored, then buried all around the main gate of your town and ticking off friends that keep falling for it :) .

∙ 14y agoA pitfall seed is just a thing you can bury to torture your neighbors (If you want for them to move out). They can also be sent to other characters for a reward in return.

You CAN bury them near another villager in town (of yourself) and fall into it. (To 'push' another villager into a pitfall, keep walking at a person, and you will eventually move them a little.) Watching someone else in peril is always fun to do on a rainy day in the Animal Crossing world!
