More a song than a poem, this one was extremely popular among the wagon trains headed west along the Oregon Trail and expresses the common view of most white Americans in the 19th century:

The Injuns will get you while crossing the Plains

They will stab you and scalp you and beat out your brains.

Uncle Sam ought to kick them right over the fence,

So there'll be no more Injuns a hundred years hence.

Anyone travelling that route today will be hard pressed to see an "Injun", so perhaps this song was sadly prophetic.
