By burning fossil fuels there is a high risk of pollution which is an environmental hazard and gives out excess carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Also caused by fossil fuels may be acid rain, which causes damage to any stone or marble work.

This could indirectly help preserve various fossils that are at risk due to habitat destruction and pollution caused by the burning of these fossil fuels.
Burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in industry, transport and the generation of electricity emits carbon dioxide. This is one of the greenhouse gases (water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane among others) which is causing global warming. If global warming continues unabated the future of the human race is at risk.

hydropower is good for the planet because it is safer and cleaner than all fossil fuels because fossil fuels are killing our planet. global warming is a serious risk and the use of hydropower or any other renewable energy source may be able to stop the effect of green-house gases and pollution in the world.

They are highly combustible, yet stable in comparison to a lot of other fuels. Fossil fuels are easy to locate and transport. Also, since they have been in use for a considerably long amount of time, industries are already familiar with the processes required to extract and refine these fuels, so the production time to make these energy sources available for use is significantly lower than alternative sources of energy that may require more time and effort spent.Positive: Cost and AvailabilityThe relatively cheap cost of fossil fuels is a major positive aspect. They are in abundant supply, which makes them inexpensive to drill or mine for. In particular, coal is one of the most widely available fossil fuels. Since technology already exists to efficiently extract and use these fuels, they are available for immediate use.Negative: Global WarmingThe major downside to the use of fossil fuels is, of course, the pollution that they cause. The burning of these fuels releases carbon dioxide, a harmful gas that when released into the atmosphere causes a greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide plays a very significant part in the process of global warming. In addition, the burning of coal releases another gas called sulfur dioxide that creates harmful acid rain.Negative: HazardousThe mining of coal is a difficult and dangerous task, and thus, coal miners face serious threats of their lives being endangered. Another hazard posed by the use of the fossil fuel crude oil is the risk of oil spills caused by leaks in oil tankers. Crude oil contains toxic chemicals that pollute the air when combusted and are harmful to health. The US has one of the richest beds of fossil fuels, namely bituminous coal. The geological region called The Pittsburgh Coal Seam extends through many States, including PA, WVA, OH, IN, ILL, and KY. Bituminous coal is a cheap fuel that burns hot. It was used exclusively in home / business heating (coal furnaces), and coal or coke (made from coal) fueled Mills and Factories. The US also has a seam of anthracite coal, which burns less hot and is less preferred over bituminous coal.However, burning coal is dirty. It produces air pollution that contains numerous chemicals. The coal dust from burning the coal can exist in homes/buildings for a century or longer. Coal dust leads to or aggravates many lung diseases. It is a risk to public health, as well as the health of the planet. Social-health concerns often conflict with political concerns, especially in States and Districts that have a high percent of coal miners. Workers risk losing their jobs if society turns away from coal as fuel.
