Alexis de Tocqueville's theory of Democracy is based on three "generative principles." The first of these "generative principles" is equality of conditions. For Democracy to exist there must be equality. In his famous work Democracy in America, Tocqueville states "rights must be given to each citizen or to no one." It is this equality of conditions that serve as the seeds of Democracy. According to Tocqueville, this equality of conditions served as a "generative principle" for Democracy Another "generative principle" for democracy was sovereignty of the people. Just as sovereignty of the people is a "generative principle," so is public opinion. Public opinion is what drives democracy. Despite the prospects of the tyranny of the majority, Tocqueville felt democracy was the way of the future. He believed that democracy was the destiny for modern nation states and that monarchies and aristocracies would soon disappear. Democracy represented the negation of the aristocracy. Tocqueville used the term "providential" when describing the spread of democracy. Tocqueville wanted to convey a sense of predetermined historical and divine triumph. In order for democracy to triumph the "generative principles" of equality of conditions, sovereignty of the people, and public opinion needed to exist.
Citizens were the free born men and non-citizens were women, slaves, and foreigners. Citizens can pass laws, vote, and speak in public meetings but not citizens couldn't.
Free public opinion is the soul of Democracy, since they are inside of the ethical and moral values.
opinion polls have been around longer than social media opinion polls can influence how citizens vote
Citizens in a democracy play a crucial role in electing representatives, participating in political processes such as voting and engaging in activism, holding leaders accountable through dialogues and protests, and influencing policy decisions through advocacy and public opinion. Their active participation is essential for ensuring the functioning and legitimacy of democratic systems.
That is entirely a matter of opinion.
An opinion, doctrine, or principle
Democracy is a better form of government as it is more accountable to the needs of the people.Democracy is based on consultation and discussion which encourages involvement of many people in the political process.Democracy provides a scope to deal with differences and conflicts. It allows toleration of difference of opinion and resolution of conflict in a peaceful manner.Democracy enhances the dignity of the citizens. It gives identity to the people by allowing them to vote.In addition to this, having a democracy is better way to have a country run by the people than dictatorship, where only one person decides exactly how a country is run.
"I'm a patriot. I support the invasion of Iraq. Therefore people against the invasion of Iraq aren't patriots." Two patriots both equally intent on acting in the best interest of their peoples and country disagree with each other as to how to go about that. The difference in opinion doesn't automatically equate to one not really being a patriot. Jefferson and Madison founded the Democratic-Republican Party, which is still on operation today for all it appears to have split in two, and their intent was to bridge the differences between the original federalists and anti-federalists. Because the differences in their opinions weren't differences in principle anymore before than after the founding of the US.
Democracy grows and flourishes in diverse opinion. The whole point of freedom of the press and freedom of religion is that views can be tested and measured faithfully against one another. Everyone has bias, that can't be avoided by using other systems of governing. In a democracy those biases can't become public policy unless there is more than bias behind them.

Officially the USA is a Democracy, but my opinion is that it is essentially owned by the powerful.
