Many diabetics only begin to put weight on AFTER they are diagnosed with diabetes, as the insulin that many have to inject into them every day is known as the 'Fat Hormone', and also insulin produces hunger too.

having a sibling or parent who developed type 2 diabetes

Being 45 or older

Being overweight or obese

Having a family background of Native American, Alaska Native, Pacific Islander, African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or Asian American

Having had gestational diabetes

having high blood pressure

Having high "bad" cholesterol levels

Bring inactive

Having impaired fasting glucose test

Have a history of cardiovascular disease

There is no true answer on how people, (usually youth) get type 1 diabetes, but

to get type 2 diabetes, you would be more on the unhealthy side or over weight.
