Area sales managers in fast moving consumer goods companies have many responsibilities. They are typically in charge of all of the sales operations within a large area. Common responsibilities include hiring and training sales staff, assisting with meeting sales goals and being responsible for overall customer satisfaction.
The purpose of this area is to obtain positive exposure for the business or organization in a unique way to help the company thrive towards success.
Sales area can be a geographic territory, or a product specialty. A sales person can sell everything within the geographic territory -- such as an Avon representative, or a sales person can sell one product over an entire country.

Regional sales managers usually cover a larger area than area sales managers. In some organisations a number of area sales managers will report to a regional sales manager. Each area manager is responsible for his area but the regional manager is responsible for the performance of the region as a whole. In other organisations job titles can be quite arbitrary and of no real significance.

An "Area Manager" by definition will have a geographical area to cover for their company. They will in normal cases have a group of managers spread across that area, who report to them on the business undertaken. I.E. In a retail environment an area manager might have 25 large stores under them, and in each store a manager reporting to that area manager.

An Area Leader is generally someone that is responsible for a territory. This position is generally a manager. For example, if there is a sales team of 50 people in the NW region of the U.S., then this person could be the Area Manager for this region.
Employees who are not Managers/Co Manager/Area Sales Manager, etc. get paid hourly. The pay is normally minimum wage or what the mall normally pays. For the upper sales people, there is a weekly base pay depending on what your position is and you get a percentage of what the store makes and also what you sell. The percentage is less than 2% for manager and co managers. Area sales manager and district mangers get a base pay and a percentage of the area they're overseeing.
