It largely depends on many factors such as age, gender, activity, etc. 575 mg is generally acceptable and even slightly low. 1000-2000 mg of Vitamin C is a very healthy dose, daily. This is an extreme, but longevitists (people who want to live longer) have been known to take as much as 10,000 mg of Vit. C per day to severly limit free radical damage, but I have no idea if this is effective or even safe.
It depends, Mostly on who you ask.. Linus Pauling won a Nobel prize for his work with mega dosing vitamin C. Many studies have shown no toxicity at doses of 100,000 Mgs. Since it comes in capsules or tablets at usually 250-500mg each, you would have to take several entire bottles at 90 capsules each to even approach these dosages. Unless prescribed by a nutritionist I would not recommend mega dosing but even if you did it would be very difficult to take enough to worry about toxicity. Water soluble vitamins, the B's, C etc. tend to pose less risk than oil soluble one's because they are so easily excreted in the urine and through other channels. The oil soluble vitamins build up in the system and again pose more risk in high dosages over time.
Yes, up to 14000 mg's is safe. The recommended daily intake of vitamin C is between 500 and 2000 mg.
I'm thinking of upgrading to 500mg. vitaminC per day.Is this safe?
