Sapphire is the blue, gem form of the mineral corundum (Alluminium Oxide). Which is the same as Ruby.
(Greek: σάπφειρος; sappheiros, 'blue stone', which probably referred instead at the time to lapis lazuli) is a gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, an aluminium oxide (α-Al2O3).
