a non-alcoholic drink that is usually made for children - a drink supposedly named after the child actress Shirley Temple - there are many variations of the drink, but the most popular version these days is lemon-lime soda (i.e. Sprite), some grenadine, and topped with a maraschino cherry - other versions include Ginger Ale and Orange Juice instead of lemon-lime soda - personal favorite version was a part of ginger ale, a part of Sprite, a splash of cherry juice from the maraschino cherry jar, a squirt of grenadine, and a maraschino cherry as a topper... and of course the little paper umbrellas the adults got in their "grown-up" drinks... lol
