Featured Snippets are the short summary of an answer that appears at top of the search engine results page. Featured Snippets are designed to provide answers to the user’s query in a quick, easy and convenient way.

Featured Snippets are usually extracted from the web page that is already ranking on page one. However, if the content is worthy to answer any query, Featured Snippets are also pulled out from lower-ranking web pages.

Why can only certain parts of DNA be used for DNA finger printing?

There are techniques for 'snipping' out particular strands of DNA that can be matched against similar strands (blood at a crime scene vs blood of several suspects, etc.). Although the strands serve the same genetic function they differ for different individuals in length. DNA is like a helical ladder and the snippet is like a small piece of one ladder. Each snippet contains different amounts of unnecessary code (rungs) which makes the lengths unique to an individual, especially when several snippets from each individual are compared. The length of the snippets determines the rate at which it is drawn through a gel under a voltage differential. The results lend themselves to statistical analysis showing that there is a very high or low probability that the set of snippets came from a particular individual. It is similar to the different numbers on two combination locks (combination of numbers). The entire genome has billions or rungs and it is impracticable and unnecessary to compare the entire genomes of the subjects.

What is the specific chromosome affected for cleft lip?

? The human geneticists from the University of Bonn had examined the DNA of 460 persons with clefts. More than half of them were examined more closely. The scientists analysed more than 500,000 items of information from their DNA and then compared these with the genetic snippets of a control group. A specific area in the human genome caught the scientists' attention. 'This was a point on the long arm of chromosome 8, where the cleft group conspicuously often had a variant, far more frequently than people who had no abnormality,' Dr. Elisabeth Mangold, a lecturer from the Institute of Human Genetics at the University of Bonn, explains. This is a notable clue that a gene located in this region has something to do with the occurrence of clefts

Are John Rendall and Ace Berg still alive?

John Rendall and Anthony "Ace" Bourke* (*please note the correct spelling of Ace Bourke's last name: It is Bourke, NOT Berg), who rescued Christian the lion from a cramped cage in the exotic pet department of Harrod's department store at Christmas, 1969, are still very much alive. John Rendall lives in the UK and is a Trustee with the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust. To see a picture of Rendall, go to the web site for the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust and click on the link for "Trustees." You can see a picture as he appears today. His dark lion's mane of hair may be gone, but he still has the same features and smile as he did in the YouTube video clips.Ace Bourke (and he is known as "Ace," and not Anthony, on a daily basis) lives in Australia and is an expert researcher and museum curator on Australian Aboriginal Art.If you Google "John Rendall" + "MSNBC" you should be able to come up with the web links to three MSNBC interviews interviews conducted on July 22, 25, and July 31. The first two interviews are only with John Rendall. The third interview is with both Rendall and Bourke. The YouTube video clips are themselves snippets from the Born Free Foundation's 1971/72 documentary film (UK Title) "Christian: The Lion At World's End" (US Title) "Christian: The Lion Who Thought He Was People."The purpose of the original documentary film was to help pay for Christian's transport and resettlement back to Kenya, and to assist insupporting the Born Free Foundation's mandate of protecting wildlife. While the film can be seen (in 10 parts) on YouTube, the DVD version available for purchase from the Born Free Foundation is of a much higher quality and the proceeds go to support the Born Free Foundation's work world-wide.
