Hay:

There is protein in most hays, the highest are (in order) alfalfa, timothy, and orchard grass.

Grain:

When you buy a standard pelleted grain, there's a percentage in front of it. That percentage is protein. For example, a decent (and relatively inexpensive) grain would be a 12% all stock pellet. The all stock indicates it's safe for any stock animal. (horses, cows, pigs, ect)

Keep in mind that more protein (and thus the percentage at the beginning of the name) does NOT indicate better grain.
