How do you replace craftsman mower propelled cable?
Get the right cable. Some Sears kits come with two cables. You may need one with the spring if you are wondering where to attach the cable and you do not see any hookups. At the end of the cable, there is retainer that goes in the metal non-moving belt-keeper. The rest of the cable and spring at the end goes under the 90 degrees straight down to the little tab on the leaver that is part of the transmission. Spring needs to be attached to that tab, You must clean the grass to be able to see it. It's tiny whole and hard to see. When you pull the cable, you are just lifting the whole transmission up and increasing the tension on the V-belt. That's how it works. The spring must go in that tab with no obstruction under the perfect angle. ( If it's tipped to one side, just take spring out and put it back on another side of the leaver. On my model the right way is to insert the spring from inside out when you face the mower.). This may sound confusing, but it's not that complicated when you see that little tab at the end. If your cable broke, it's possible that you lost the spring and your cable ends where you see that retainer on the belt keeper. If that's the case you just need cable with the spring and in my case that was part number 400292 (comes with two different cables and one has a spring on it). I could not find any instructions on this and part from Sears comes with no instruction. Warning: The drive cable is fragile and can break. Make sure you do not bend it!

Your throttle cable is probably dirty and stuck up, or the cylinder in the carburetor, which holds the carb needle, is stuck in the open throttle position (UP)- this could be due to a long overdue cleaning and maintenance routine. It is also ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS THINGS TO HAPPEN TO A MOTORCYCLE RUNNING AT FULL SPEED: a STUCK THROTTLE. The best remedy for this situation is to check both cable and carb. You will have to unscrew the top of the carb where the throttle cable enters the carburetor barrel. Pull the cable out and check if the spring still works. If the spring is still original (1976) it WILL most probably be broken and won't return the cylinder DOWN to the closed throttle position. Replace the spring. If it is still whole, shiny, and good- spray it with Carb Cleaner. Actuate your throttle by twisting the grip- check the return action on the spring. If it goes back, your cable is good. If not, put the small red hose that comes with your Carb Cleaner spray into the spray nozzle and spray a little INTO the cable's housing to clean the cable. Twist the throttle grip while the cleaner is still wet to get the cleaner into the cable. If this loosens the cable, then your problem is found. Spray a bit more cleaner into the cable, (best done if you REMOVE THE WHOLE CABLE AND SPRAY INTO IT FROM BOTH ENDS AND PULL THE CABLE IN AND OUT). Then spray WHITE SILICON LUBRICANT into the cable from both ends. Assemble your carb and cable. Start your engine as you normally would. If all else fails, replace the throttle cable.
How do you open a stuck gas cap door on a Nissan Sentra?
This is usually due to a broken coupling between the spring mechanism on the latch and the cable, located just behind the filling box. You will NOT need to replace the entire cable, or begin pullng the entire car apart to get to it. This is one of the few flaws on Nissans, and they should replace it for free, but they don't. Step One: Inside the trunk, gently pull the carpet covering away from the fuel door. Step Two: You will find an 8' diameter hole in the metal frame. Inside that hole is the cable. With a flashlight, you will see a white unit at the end of the cable, with two tabs that keep the unit in place at the fuel door. press those two tabs, and the unit will release into the fuel door area. Step 3: Gently open the fuel door, using a kitchen knife or small putty knife to get the door open. Do not force it, as you do not want to damage the car or the spring mechanism. Step 4: Pull the spring unit and cable out through the hole in the filling box. You will see that the cable part will snap out of the spring unit. You can replace the unit, or I drilled a hole in the spring plunger and wired the plunger to the cable. Step 5: Slide the spring unit with cable attached back into the hole. Done!
