Starfish often climb on top of different types of shellfish, such as oysters or clams, using the suction cups on each of their legs to pry and pull them open. They then essentially "spit" out their entire stomachs into the shellfish, let their stomach acid dissolve the meat in the shell, and suck the (now dissolved) mixture of acid and shellfish back inside, into a hole roughly in the center of where the legs intersect.
Starfish belongs to the phylum echinodermata, subphylum asterozoa, class asteroidea.
