scrap prices vary a lot from one place to another. Scrap price of steel is very low when compared to copper, brass, lead, etc. For the weight of an average door, probably a dollar or so.
Brass, aluminium, stainless steel, cast iron, wood, Bakelite, plastic and other materials have all been used to make door handles. The mechanism is usually made from brass, steel or stainless steel.

26 gauge is your common metal mailbox 26 gauge is comparable to the skin on an elevator door.
The lower the gauge number, the thicker the steel.
yes and no. anything made of cold rolled steel will resist fire.. the question is what kind of steel door and whether you are asking if it has an authorized fire label or not. residential steel - clad doors usually can get a 20minute UL fire rating, but it has to be labeled by the manufacturer ahead of time.. you need a commercial level hollow metal door to get a fire rating up to 3 hours. you can not have polyurethane core. it has to be foam or honeycomb.
Steel
heat the other side of the door if you can & scrap off - it does work, we removed the insulation from aluminum sheeting that way

Ok clean scrap steel goes at about $.06 a pound near me. Dirty meaning glass plastic, fabric not removed, no payment. They will take it but not pay
The reason is that aluminum is a cheap metal. There are in fact other door knobs that are made out of steel, but these cost a lot more and are more heavy to turn around, which makes them unpopular to produce.

you can't that's the problem with cheep construction the builders con you into buying them as a cheaper option on your house but when the house shifts and what house doesn't? your then in trouble it costs 10 time more to fix a metal door than the convectional wood door frame. PS. Stay away from metal doors on houses
Metal door locks are made of metal.
I had a 1975 Chevy pickup truck that I was welding on the door. The molten steel fell on the window and fused itself to it. I ruined the glass and learned that you can indeed have metal freeze on glass.
I think steel doors are much better when compared to fiberglass doors in terms of strength. If you are planning to install a steel door here are easy steps to do it : Firstly, use a pry bar in order to pull the upper molding of the existing door. Repeat the steps again on the bottom as well as the middle part of the molding. Get the hige pins out and then unscrew the hinges. Next, work on the wall framing. Start placing the metal studs on the new frame opening. By using a set of screws, you can secure the frame directly into the existing sill and header framing. Block the areas which require support. Next, you have to set up the door. You may need another person to help in this process. Place the bottom of the steel door in the door opening. Tilt the steel door up into place. Using the shims, make sure to level and orient the door in the right position. Now you have to shim the door. You have to manupulate the shims on each side of the door frame between the metal studs and frame. This will make the door to plumb and level. Then you need to screw the lockset portion of the frame to the metal studs and do the same to the hinge of the frame. Happy to help you.
