European and North American foxes do not change their fur colour in the Winter, it remains the same. You are thinking of the Arctic Fox, which lives in the Far Northern regions of the world and keeps a white coat to camouflage it against the snow, both to avoid it's prey from spotting it and also to stop it from being seen easily by any larger animals that may prey on IT.

What is the difference between a stoat and a weasel?

The terms stoat and ermine are terms for the long tailed and short tailed weasels in their winter coats. A stoat is a weasel. I has a black tip on its tail and turns white in the winter keeping the black tipped tail. Stoats are larger and have black tips on the end of their tails all year round The Stoat can be easily told from the weasel by the simple fact that its tail is blacked and it's figure is slightly the bigger. The terms stoat and ermine are terms for the long tailed and short tailed weasels in their winter coats.

Where does the stoat live?

The stoat is the European name for the short-tailed weasel, Mustela erminea, also called ermine when in its white winter coat can be found almost everywhere throughout the northern temperate, subarctic and Arctic regions, Asia, Canada, northern USA and lives mostly in grasslands of Eurasia and North America. Their habitat is to make their dens in the old roots of a tree or in the crevice of a rock. Stoat or Ermines are capable of having several dens or in the roots of trees farther south, but there are no trees on the tundra. The Stoat was introduced to New Zealand during the late 1800's in an attempt to control the rabbit population and is considered a serious pest as a predator of native wildlife. The stoat is considered to be the prime cause of the decline and/or extinction of a number of endemic New Zealand bird species. Stoats are largely nocturnal or crepuscular but will sometimes come out during the day ====== ====== == ==
