The story of Ferdinand the Bull.
It's about a peaceful bull who lives on a ranch, and he loves to sniff the flowers. All the other bulls want to butt heads and fight, but Ferdinand just wants to listen to the birds. When the Bull Fighting Show people come, Ferdinand retreats, but he accidentally sits on a bee. The bee stings him, and it hurts so bad that he runs, stomps, and snorts all over the meadow. The Show people think he's really wild, so they take him to the show. But when Ferdinand is let into the ring and the Materdor waves the red cloth, he just sits down, closes his eyes, and smells the flowers in the ladies' hats. When the Materdor has done everything he can to try to anger Ferdinand, to no avail, the Show people let him go home and he lives happily ever after, smelling the flowers in his meadow.

A cock is a rooster, and a bull is a male cow. A cock and bull story is one that is totally false. The meaning is similar to "bulls**t." It's not precisely vulgar, but it's not a totally polite expression either. You'd say "That's a cock and bull story" when someone was trying to convince you and you thought they were lying.
I think the story you are talking about is the Minotaur which was half-bull half-human. The Minotaur was put in the Labyrinth to kill unwanted travelers. It was killed by Theseus.
