Country strong is a body type you get from working on a farm/manual labor...your not all cut and chiseled like some juice head, but extremely strong for ones size.
When people lost their loved ones in the War many were angry with God and turned away from him. Some people never really had a strong belief in God prior to the war and the war weakened their willingness to believe. There was also a strong movement of atheism sweeping the country.
