A terrestrial planet is a planet composed of an outer crust of rock, above a rocky "mantle" with a central core.

The 4 terrestrial planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. They are all nearer to the Sun than the main asteroid belt.

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are "gas planets" with no solid outer surface. They may have a solid core that we haven't proved that yet.
