GREATLY depends on the medal. Some are more valuable than others. I wouldn't sell one, though - there's probably a terrific history behind whatever medal you have.
Medal of Honor True Stories of America's Greatest War Heroes - 1990 was released on: USA: September 1990
No comprehensive list exists.
It was impossible for ANYONE to receive a Silver Star Medal in WWI, as the medal did not exist until the early 1940's.
Silver Star
There were millions of US military involved in WWII. Because of the numbers, no list exists naming all BS Medal recipients. And I am sure there are some who received more than two (2) BS medals.
The only award that has a monetary compensation attached to it is the Medal of Honor.

The Silver Star Medal was awarded only for heroism in combat. In the medal hierarchy it ranks after the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross (or Navy Cross) which are also only given for heroism in combat and before the Bronze Star Medal (either a heroism or meritorius service medal). This is a high honor for any serviceman. Occasionally people will ask this question because they have a campaign ribbon or other decoration with small 1/4 inch stars attached that are either bronze or silver in color. These stars indicate the number of times the decoration was awarded or the number of campaign's the recipient participated in. A bronze star equals 1 and a silver star equals five bronze stars
The Bronze Star Medal is in the shape of a 5-pointed star, with the distance from one point across to the other is about 1.5 inches. The star is formed in relief with some rays along each arm and in the center is another tiny 5-pointed star. The ribbon is RED with a thin WHITE edge and has a BLUE stripe down the center also with a thin White edge. The Silver Star Medal is very similar but, of course, it is formed from a silver medal such as nickel alloy. It has a ribbon that is primarily BLUE. The Silver Star Medal is a higher award for bravery in combat.Custermen
While the Silver Star itself was created in 1932, the Citation Star, created in 1918, was its predecessor. Veterans of World War I were eligible to convert the Citation Star, if awarded, to the Silver Star. I know because my grandfather converted his Citation Star for Gallantry in Action to the Silver Star. However, the U.S. government kept very poor official records on this award and you may have trouble finding your WWI veteran's name on a list of recipients.
