Spreadsheets can be very simple or very complicated and are used mostly for information gathering in a format that can be easily read. For example you could make a simple spreadsheet for this weeks weather listing the days of the week in one column and across the top list the different types of weather from snow, rain windy, sunny cloudy and so on. Then in the column for monday you could go across the page and if it were snowy, check snow. If the wind also blew that day check windy. and so on .
That would be a simple spreadsheet. More complicated sheets are used for sales data and goals, payroll, things like that. Your report xard is kind of a spreadsheet showing how you did in each of the grading periods throughout the year.

Any time a value is changed in a spreadsheet, it automatically recalculates the entire worksheet. This keeps it up to date for the values that are now in the worksheet. A worksheet can have many formulas. Changing one value can affect many of those formulas, so it is important that they do recalculate when changes are made.
