Fat Nathan
Amongst other things ice cream has fat in it (its made from cream after all) fat floats on water.
Butter is made when cream is churned until it has reached a semi-solid state. If you take a cup of whipping cream and put it into a mixer and turn it on and watch it, it will go from cream to Whipped cream to butter.
Milk fat is mainly used to make butter and cream.
Butter is not made from milk, it is made from cream, which can be separated from raw milk. "Store bought" milk has been homogenized, which keeps the cream from separating from the milk. It may be reduced fat milk, which has had some of the cream removed. Buttermilk is what you have left after you made butter from cream. You cannot make butter from buttermilk. You can make some really great biscuits with it. Above was learned while doing chores for my grandmother- including churning butter.
There is generally no ice cream that is made using pig fat. There were rumors going around that McDonald's was using pig fat in their ice cream but they have denied it.
Cream is the portion of milk that has a high fat content. It is made by allowing the milk to settle, so that the lighter particles (fat is lighter than water) rise to the top, andis then skimmed off as cream, (and hence the name skim milk for low fat milk).
