It depends greatly on the reason for the abdominal pain. There are a number of conditions or situations that can result in abdominal pain. A few with suggested treatments are below:
- muscle pain - apply heat and take an analgesic (aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc.)
- Food poisoning - *from personal experience, get it through you as quickly as possible. If you are not vomiting, drink a bottle of magnesium citrate, and keep hydrating with cold water, and stay close to the "loo." If the condition persists for longer that 24 hours or worsens, seek medical attention.
- stomach or intestinal discomfort - antacid, milk of magnesia, Pepto, laxative, anti-gas, etc.
- gallbladder/gall stones - stop eating and seek medical attention.
- pancreatitis - stop eating and seek medical attention.
- appendicitis - stop eating and seek medical attention.
- bladder/kidney/UTI - drink cranberry juice and seek medical attention.
There are obvious other conditions that can cause abdominal pain and discomfort. These are just a few. It is important to narrow down the cause, and the best way to do this is to seek medical attention.
