Usually it is a machine for reducing the temperature of the air inside a house or car by using a heat-pump that works on the same principle as a refrigerator. It just makes your house a big refrigerator that you sit inside.

Willis Haviland Carrier is said to be the man who invented modern day air conditioning.
yes it does as the heat pump is more effeciant.
A Reverse cycle Air conditioner is MUCH more efficient than resistance heating. It is called a heat pump, and requires that the Evaporator and Condenser coils of a Closed Refrigerant System be reversed.
Hi: It would be nice if you would have included just why you feel they need relining and what kind of liner you have at present. But then! if we had some green eggs and ham we could have some green eggs if we had some ham. Simple: Answer is put in new ducts because lots of old inner liners used adhesive that would simply let go in time and it sheets of liner would fall into the system to wreck havoc on your air flow design. If your ducts are large enough and you can go inside them then remove the old the replace with new ( but ) safety hazards galore are involved here. Carsinogenic materials and fibers have been used in years past. If inner liner is still holding strong then wrap it with outer duct wrap and have inner duct liner professionally cleaned with professional equipment and trained people. Hope this helps: Jimiwane
