Is it bad to get pregnant just after childbirth?

Yes. It is bad to get pregnant just after child birth. Normally Lactation prevents ovulation and pregnancy is prevented by Nature. But at times, pregnancy does take place. You may do urine pregnancy test done monthly after 3 weeks of starting intercourse, every two weeks.Because at times patient thinks that Amenorhoea is due to Lactation and she may become pregnant before menses. So till three months after delivery, a time taken for involution of Uterus, condom may be used during intercourse. You can put Copper T after three months of pregnancy or use condom.Oral contraceptives are not preferred but your Gynecologist may advise you the same, specially when your baby is girl child. If pregnancy takes place, it should be terminated with the advice of your Gynecologist.Termination of pregnancy is easy. Because physically and psychologically mother and rest of the family is not prepared for next next pregnancy. If you continue pregnancy, lactation becomes less due to hormones of pregnancy. So the suckling baby suffers.Due to lactation food becomes shorter for mother and fetus. So both of them get either under nourished or malnourished.During continuation of pregnancy, mother needs attention herself and she may not be able to take care of the baby properly. So better enjoy the company of first baby and after space of 3 to 5 years, you plan to have next baby. Sometimes mother comes with Fetus more than 3 months old. At this time it is difficult to terminate the pregnancy and you have to watch troubles of the the family, even you try your best. It is not that, you cannot manage this type of pregnancy. But is no longer enjoyable experience for the Doctor as well as Family of patient.
