Amplitude distortion occurs in an electronic signal when the power of the amplifier is not great enough to carry the sine wave to its intended peak amplification. If you look at the wave form of a amplitude distorted output signal, it would look like someone had neatly sliced off the top of a hill. Though amplitude distortion is usually an undesired result, the effect is sometimes used intentionally for audio applications, such as a distorted rock guitar which gives that crunchy rock sound.
You need to assess the frequency, amplitude and see if there is any distortion in the waveform. The best way is with an Oscilloscope.
distortion refers to any deviation in any parameter like amplitude, time shape of an electrical signal from an ideal input signal.the distortion occurs due to the inherent non-linear characteristics of the component and devices that form the electronic circuit cause some harmonics to take place in the waveform and resultant deviation is know as harmonic distortion.
Non-zero initial condition is called DC offset. DC offset is bad, and needs to be removed by HP filter as they cause distortion, non-linearity. If the mean/average amplitude of the wave is zero it has no DC-offset.
amplitude modulating signal
They're not. The same amplitude can have high or low frequency, and the same frequency can have large or small amplitude.

IF we use frequency modulation for transmitting video signal this can cause phase shifting .and eyes can percieve this distortion effect easly . and requires more bandwidth to send the signal .Color levels are adjusted by amplitude in TV .So it s more logic to use Amplitude modulation .
There are two types of modulations. They are amplitude modulation and frequency modulation. In AM, amplitude of the signal is modified. In FM, frequency is getting modulated. Frequency modulated with carrier waves are transmitted and received by receivers without any distortion.
A clean tone is the sound a guitar string makes when it is plucked. A common sound manipulation trick used in rock, and well, most types of music involving guitars, is "distortion". Distortion is what gives the guitar that electric sound we all love. The intro to this song is a guitar that is clean (no distortion): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPKkKgOJmiM The intro to this song is a guitar that is distorted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9skUH9rSD8 Sorry I can give you the technical specifications. William N. Smott has written: 'Sampling and coding as a means of reducing time and amplitude distortion in recording' -- subject(s): Electronics
-- Amplitude (loudness) -- Frequency of fundamental / (mathematically tied to wavelength) -- Timbre/distortion (number and amplitudes of harmonic components) How about -- Attack ? -- Decay ? -- Vibrato ?
Distortion and static, as radio waves (assuming that's what you are talking about) are electro-magnetic by definition.
A: Ripple is a repetitive voltage variation strictly relevant to the frequency. distortion can be loading variation or bad design to begin with. The amplitude and shape will change as a function of overdrive
Usually, people are asking as if there is just "the" amplitude in sound waves in air. The loudness perception of a sound is determined by the amplitude of the sound waves − the higher the amplitude, the louder the sound. Which amplitude of sound (sound amplitude) do you mean? There are: amplitude of particle displacement ξ, or displacement amplitude amplitude of sound pressure p or pressure amplitude amplitude of sound particle velocity v, or particle velocity amplitude amplitude of pressure gradient Δ p, or pressure gradient amplitude. Furthermore, think of the amplitude of the oscillation of a string. The maximum magnitude of the deflection of a wave is called amplitude. Look at link: "What is an amplitude?"
There is not only "one" amplitude. There is an amplitude of particle displacement ξ, or displacement amplitude, an amplitude of sound pressure p or pressure amplitude, an amplitude of sound particle velocity v, or particle velocity amplitude, an amplitude of pressure gradient Δ p, or pressure gradient amplitude. If the "sound" inceases, the "amplitude" also increases.
The term for maximum displacement is the amplitude of the wave.
