There is no concept of Holy war in Islam. Wars are fought under two circustamces (a) in self defence i.e. if you are being attacked or (b) if there is Fitnah (oppression, injustice etc etc).
Even in war there are certains rules, that a Muslim has to abide by; some of which include.
1. No killing of children, women or old.
2. No killing of non-combatants.
3. No cutting of trees or damaging property.
But Islam does not keep to these rules. We have a clause
