Well, having nothing to do with Australia and living in Greece, I would think that since Greeks came to Australia many decades ago, they brought with them their eating habits. E.g. we cook with olive oil ONLY, we use many onions which make food taste better, we eat beans, peas,, and so on.. About the food they brought in Australia, I recently read and article talking about a fast food chain called gyro. Gyros is one of the most popular fast food kind in Greece which is made by pita, tzatziki, onions, meat (pork or chicken), tomatoes and fried potatoes.
Australia doesn't have a favourite food, we are a multi-cultural country, so we eat all types of food from Chinese to Italian
Europeans did because europeans brought animals and weird food
They bought stuff like pasta and pizza! All the Italian food you can think of!
Pavlova is a New Zealand invention, (claim by Australia) to celebrate the tour of Australia and new zealand by a famous Russian ballerina (Anna Pavlova) So so its not at all Italian :)
