Many associate aircraft landing as a term used from the World War ll era to alert people that enemy planes were about to be seen in the sky and they shelter should be sought immediately. Plane crash stories and video images are usually under the category of aircraft landings.

VSTOL = Vertical or Short Take Off and Landing aircraft. Whereas a STOL aircraft is a Short Take Off and Landing Aircraft. Maybe there is a term VTOL just for Vertical Take Off and Landing.
