I think you mean axle shaft joint. The usual symptom of a bad axle shaft joint is a crunching noise when turning corners.

You probably mean U - joint (universal joint)! Located at each end of drive shaft or axle and possibly in the middle of drive shaft.

A bad cv joint/axle shaft on the front will make a clicking noise when turning.

Once the axle is out, just hold the axle shaft and whack the CV joint with a rubber hammer a few times till it comes off the end of the shaft. It is held on by a spring clip which detents into a groove in the joint body. Cutting off the boot first will help a little.

Lift the vehicle using a jack. Inspect the CV boot for problems. Mark the axle. Separate the CV from the shaft. Remove the CV boot clamps. Use a mallet to knock the CV joint off the shaft. Remove the boot from the CV axle shaft.
Rear wheel drive cars, there is one on each end of the driveshaft. 4 wheel drive has a short shaft that runs to the front axle, there is one on each end of that shaft. and each front axle has one on the end behind the wheel.
